ATROPHIA RED SUN - Twisted Logic - review

You guys thought that Nocturnus is dead? That there is no hope for the reunion of Pestilence? Well, now there's no such need!!! Since Atrophia Red Sun's 3rd official release (other two containing anthems of 'romantic doom metal' as they used to call it) entitled 'Twisted Logic', many fans of schizophrenic techno-metal will be pleased and at the same time crushed to the ground. This cd, consisting of 9 tracks and 2 intros is simply a picture of how 'Thresholds'-era Nocturnus would sound nowadays. Very good arrangements, paranoid vocals, precise guitar/bass drum work and, above all, totally drug driven keyboards creating outstanding background landscapes. ARS don't leave any place for unnecessary sounds, and the music on this cd appears to be an entity, divided only by the change of track numbers on your cd player. Songs seem to be flowing easily through the whole metal (and not only) genre, sometimes reminding of late Kovenant, sometimes the aforementioned Pestilence (and their 'Spheres' monument) but there's no need to worry - those styles are combined in a way that will satisfy even the most sceptical fans and critics. There are not many guitar solos on 'Twisted Logic' and that's probably because of the structure of compositions - there's some really thick guitar work, that doesn't leave much space for soloing. In other words, it was very wise of them to limit this element to the minimal value. In general the only thing that I am able to criticise is the slight lack of bass in the final version. Sometimes it feels like that instrument lays hidden behind many layers of other  sounds. But that's not a thing to worry, judging by the high level of outcome.
