V roce 2002 navštívila Uliho Kusche belgická zpěvačka Magali Luyten, která si jej vybrala jako producenta pro demo své tehdejší kapely. K vydání alba samotného nikdy nedošlo, ale Uli se rozhodl využít její hlas ve svém vlastním projektu - Beautiful Sin, který vznikl o dva roky později. Uplynuly další dva roky a Beautiful Sin vydávají své debutové CD. Album vychází pro evropský trh v klasické edici a limitované edici v digipacku, kde je jako bonus přidána jedna stopa.
Obal alba i booklet jsou laděny do tvavých barev, připomínajících staré zažloutlé fotografie. Booklet obsahuje klasicky fotografie členů kapely a texty k písním. Uli kompletně přepsal vokální linky a text písně a spolu s úpravou celkové kompozice, která je nyní bohatší na klávesové pozadí, jí vdechl nový život. Od prvního okamžiku píseň provází typický zvuk alba, který je jednoduše perfektní. Ostré kytary, řezající náročné riffy, skvěle nazvučené bicí a mohutné klávesy. Tomu všemu vévodí hlas Magali Luyten, který asi nejvíce ze všech ženských vokálů připomíná hlas Kimberly Goss ze Sinergy, trochu říznutý Doro.
Druhá píseň alba, This is not the Original Dream, se dočkala v limitované edici překladu do francouzštiny. Jde o příjemnou svižnější šlapavou píseň, která by rozhodně bez jakýchkoliv problémů zapadla do repertoáru Uliho dnes již bývalé kapely Masterplan. Magali na mne zde působí jako ženský ekvivalent Jorna Landeho. Vlastní vynikající hlas, posazený do příjemné střední polohy, během jediné písně střídá nekolik poloh, od jemných typicky ženských až po opravdovou metalovou pilku á la Doro.
Nesmělo by to být album pana bubeníka Kusche, aby se na něm neobjevila svižná speedmetalová skladba. Tou je zde až třetí skladba v pořadí - Take me Home, která postupně od lehce svižnějšího tempa eskaluje až ve skutečný speedový nářez. Opět zde cítím odkaz Masterplan a jejich písně Heroes, hitovky jejich prvního alba.
Každá píseň alba je kapitola sama o sobě - album neupadá do motonního ducha a Uli Kusch zde dokazuje své skladatelské kvality. Vetšinu matriálu alba složil sám, místy s přispěním Magali. Svižný duch celého alba zpomalí pouze dvakrát. Poprvé v krásné metalové baladě Closer to My Heart, kde se Magalin hlas posune do těch nejjemnějších poloh a svou ženskostí celou píseň vyložene prosytí. Druhé zpomalení je až v poslední skladbě klasické edice - The Beautiful Sin. Tuto instrumentálku složil Uli Kusch s přispěním svých bývalých kolegů z Masterplan - Jorna Landeho a Rolanda Grapowa. Jde o pomalou téměř symfonickou skladbu, ve které hraje hlavní roli klavír pod vedením dalšího člena Masterplan, Axela Mackenrotta.
Po baladě Closer to My Heart následuje jediná cover verze alba. I když o cover verzi jde jen z poloviny - píseň Give Up Once for All má svůj vzor v písni Die Diktatur der Angepassten německé skupiny Blumfeld. Její slova bylo nutno přeložit a upravit do angličtiny. Původně lehká poprocková píseň, jak ji složili Blumfeld se stává těžkým metalovým strojem, kterému vévodí riff, který si v ničem nezadá s prací mistra a zakladatele těžkých riffů - Tonyho Iommiho.
Texty alba jako takové nejsou ničím příliš vyjímečné. Tedy vlastně jednou věcí ano - pesimizmem, který je cítit v každé písni. Asi nejvíce narovinu to podává píseň Pechvogel (Unlucky Fellow), která popisuje náhodnou, naprosto nepředvídatelnou nehodu. Odsud se možná objevil i název alba The Unexpected - neočekávaný. O to větším překvapením pak je závěr bonusové stopy - zvukový záznam z kurníku plného slepic, který začnou podkreslovat housle a klávesy, vše se strhne v heavymetalou instrumentálku a zakončí ji zakokrhání kohouta. Tak tohle, to jsem opravdu nečekal. :-)
Celkově toto album nemá slabé místo. Každá píseň je dotažená do konce snad až pedantským způsobem, album jako celek příjemně ubíhá a po jeho skončení člověk neodolá nutkání a musí si jej pustit znovu. Náhrada za takovýto skladatelský potenciál se bude Masterplanum hledat velmi těžko a tuším, že z Beautiful Sin by mohl být objev roku stejně tak, jako byli před třemi lety Masterplan. Tahle kapela prostě válí.
